Screenplay by Charles Lederer - Adapted from the Broadway Musical (book by Joseph Fields and Anita Loos, lyrics by Leo Robin, and music by Jule Styne); based on the novel by Loos
“Women keep getting up on soapboxes and proclaiming that women are brighter than men. That’s true, but it should be kept very quiet, or it ruins the whole racket.” -- Anita Loos
Taking inspiration from the original source, Anita Loos’ 1925 Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (first serialized in 1925 in Harper's Bazaar then later published a stand-alone novel), I’ve set the story in the late 1920’s (before the Crash); Together Lorelei Lee and Dorothy Shaw sing their way from the speakeasies of New York City to the cabaret stages of Paris. They fall in love along the way, teaching men to take them as they are -- while looking fabulous, having the time of their lives, and always being there for each other.
